Hello,
I’m Robin Treadway, the founder of Above and Beyond Consulting Services (ABCS). I deeply understand where you are!
My journey kicked off as a home child care provider, driven by an enduring love for children and education. Over time, I took a significant leap, transitioning to establish a child care center. This shift was monumental, starting from my humble beginnings with just two children in my home, alongside my own four kids, to taking on the responsibility of over 100 children within a center environment.
The path was strewn with challenges. I navigated through rent negotiations, grappled with ever-changing state child care regulations, and tackled a myriad of requirements. Fire codes, building inspections, security considerations, parking rules (including handicapped spaces), first aid and child care training, and the quest for the right staff (with criminal background checks and educational qualifications) were just a few of the hurdles. Managing and compensating a team of ten or more individuals, fundraising, and adhering to health guidelines for nutritious meals added complexity. Legislative issues loomed large.
The child care industry is undeniably rewarding, yet far from a walk in the park. Many directors find themselves overwhelmed by paperwork, regulations, and business expenses, diverting their attention from the staff and children they’re committed to nurturing.
One misstep, like a staffing issue or a compliance lapse, can imperil a center’s star quality and trigger license revocation. The repercussions are profound – parents in distress, struggling to find a safe place for their children while they work or study, and both staff and business owners facing a loss of vital income. The impact can be devastating.
Through the highs and lows of this industry, I proudly achieved a 3-star status with my center, My Second Home Early Learning Center, before successfully selling it.
